R.S. Mallari

The Big Fight

Just last night
a shadow
called my name
I looked back and grinned
walked away
he yelled; you coward!
I ran towards him
threw a left hook
blood sprawled
he countered
an uppercut to my chin
I was knocked-out
next thing I knew
I woke up
lying on the cold floor
cuts on my knuckles
I stood up
on the shattered mirror
was my distorted reflection
only then I realized
the shadow I fought
was myself all along

About R.S. Mallari

Through poetry I am trying to break the barriers of ethnicity, cultures and even beliefs for we humans have the same emotions, the same desires and aspirations. We may differ in colors, in language, and food that we eat yet we are still living under the same sun, swimming and sailing on the same seas and sleeping under the same stars.

Sometimes or greatest emeny can be one's self. It is easier to forgive someone else, or anyone else for that matter, than it is to forgive one's self. Love your blog! :-)

when our world gets DARK,
they say,
even our SHADOWS leave us...

our shadows, our life's sponge
they are our back ups
they absorb our anger
our ugliness, our dark sides

and they will be there
to always keep us company
coz in the light, they follow us
and in darkness, they let us be

not for us to be ALONE
but for us to FIGHT and
struggle, on our own
when morn comes, they are still there

always falling behind us...
our protector
our shelter
OUR SHADOWS ARE US...

Such lovely poem Minorie, our shadow can be our best-friend but can also be our greatest enemy.

Through poetry we can inspire others, we can make someone smile and words can make others cry be it of joy or sadness.
