God Be With You

By George J. Dance

You tell me that you're leaving me today:
You've met the man you want. He wants you, too;
He's taking you, not far, but still away,
And I'm afraid there's nothing I can do.

That's what I get for trying to love two:
You need a greater passion in your life,
As strong and pure as that which comes from you,
The kind that he will show to you, his wife;

So go, my daughter, go to your new man.
I still can love you; you will still love me.
I'll be there for you, as and when I can,
To find, in time, that I am loving three,

And I am sure I'll soon be loving four:
Love opens arms to bring in more, and more.
